Andrew Slater is in his 16th year at Collegiate School as the Head Baseball Coach and Middle School Activities Director. In Slater’s time at Collegiate, they have participated in the VISAA playoffs in 2012 and every year from 2014 to 2023 while reaching the Final Four seven times in the past eight years with back to back State Championship appearances in 2015 and 2016. Collegiate won its second VISAA Division 1 state title in 2016. Andrew has also coached travel baseball in the Richmond region since the fall of 2008 at RBA West and RockIt Sports coaching and mentoring countless players to college opportunities including current Colorado Rockies pitcher Evan Justice (Collegiate/RockIt). Slater has been named Prep League Coach of the Year five times and State Coach of the Year twice in his time at Collegiate.
Slater played football and baseball at University of Richmond from 1996-1998 as a starting place kicker and third baseman where he once held the NCAA record for HBP in a season with 33. He transferred to Auburn University after two back surgeries and played baseball at Auburn in 1999 and 2000. In 2001 Slater began his coaching career as a Student Assistant while finishing his degree at Auburn. Slater went on to be an Assistant Coach at VMI from 2002-2005 and Western Kentucky University from 2006-2008. Coach Slater participated in five regionals as a player and/or coach and one Super Regional.
He has been married to his wife Samantha for 20 years and they have three boys ages 18,15,14. Outside of spending time on the baseball field, Slater loves the outdoors, hunting, and fishing with his boys and enjoys anything involving family time.
